Two clients were acquired and left. Reach the operations and finance leaders in your metro area from a chat.
The owner of a 10 to 40 person managed IT services firm can run LinkedIn outreach for MSP growth without a salesperson. You tell your own Claude or ChatGPT which local firms you serve well, check real people before a message exists, and review each reply. Plan about two hours a week after the first build. GTM Bud cannot see who a company uses for IT today, and this page says what that means for you.
The short answer for an MSP owner
LinkedIn outreach for MSP growth can be run by the owner alone, from a chat, in about two hours a week once a campaign is live. You describe the operations and finance leaders you want at local firms of the right size, your own Claude or ChatGPT builds the campaign through the GTM Bud connector, and you approve the audience, the offer, the messages and each reply.
This page is for the owner of a managed IT services firm with 10 to 40 people that grew by referral inside one metro area. It is not the signal playbook for a provider with a sales team. That is in our article on MSP lead generation. It is also not for a solo IT consultant, who should read lead generation for IT consultants.
The two hours are our estimate for a week after setup. They are not a measured figure.
The situation: two logos gone, no one to sell
Marcus owns a 24 person MSP in Columbus, Ohio. In March a regional bank bought his second largest client. In June a national dental group bought his fourth. Both buyers have their own IT departments. Nothing went wrong with the service, and the revenue left anyway.
Marcus has never hired a salesperson. He has a referral habit: an accountant, a landlord, a phone vendor. Those three send him a lead when they think of it. He needs a source that does not depend on someone else remembering him, and he has Tuesday from 7 to 8 and Friday from 4 to 5.
His decision by the end of the month: is this a thing the owner can run, or does the firm need a sales hire first?
What you can tell from public data, and what you cannot
GTM Bud searches LinkedIn by role, industry, company headcount and location. Then it reads the profile and the company of each person and checks each criterion you set.
| You want to know | Can it be a criterion? |
|---|---|
| The person runs operations or finance | Yes, from the title and the profile |
| The company has 25 to 150 employees | Yes, company headcount |
| The office is in the Columbus metro | Yes, location |
| The company is a law, accounting or engineering firm | Yes, industry and the company page |
| The company has no internal IT department | Only as far as public pages show it. Treat it as a preference |
| Who the current IT provider is | No. That is private data |
| When the IT contract ends | No |
| Which backup or security tools the company runs | No. GTM Bud cannot see the tools that a company uses |
The last three rows are the ones an MSP owner expects, because every MSP sale replaces an incumbent. You will not get them from targeting. You get them from the first reply, which is why the reply rules matter more for you than for most firms.
Six prompts for the two hours
- “Create a campaign draft named Columbus professional firms for COOs, directors of operations, controllers and CFOs at law, accounting and engineering firms with 25 to 150 employees in the Columbus, Ohio metro area. Show me what the criteria check returned.”
- “Set the seller profile of this campaign to our website and my personal LinkedIn profile, then tell me which three services on our website a controller would care about.”
- “Get the value offer brief for this campaign. I want a report format that one technician can produce in under an hour for each lead who replies. Write three offers and show me all of them before you save.”
- “Start a prospect preview. When it is done, tell me the title, the firm, the headcount and the city of each person, and wait for my mark.”
- “Save this as the reply playbook of the Columbus campaign: we never name a price in chat, we never criticize the current provider, we ask when their IT agreement renews, and we offer a 20 minute call with me on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon.”
- “It is Friday at 4. Give me the results of the Columbus campaign with the as-of time, then the replies that need an answer, Interested first.”
A worked example: Marcus builds the Columbus campaign
The names below are invented. The steps are the ones the connector has.
The audience sentence. “COOs, directors of operations, controllers and CFOs at law, accounting and engineering firms with 25 to 150 employees in the Columbus, Ohio metro area.”
The criteria check. Marcus’s AI wrote five criteria from the sentence and added a sixth that Marcus asked for: “the company is unhappy with its current IT provider”. GTM Bud flagged that sixth criterion. Its message said the requirement cannot be read from a LinkedIn profile, a company page or public web content, and it suggested a rewrite. Marcus removed the criterion. The other five passed.
The AI then asked a question of its own: should an office manager count as an operations leader at a 30 person firm? Marcus said yes for firms below 50 employees, because at that size the office manager is the person who calls him.
Two people from the preview.
- Renee K., Controller at a 70 person civil engineering firm in Dublin, Ohio. Marked Good fit: finance role, right size, twenty minutes from the office.
- Paul D., Chief Operating Officer at a 110 person law firm with a Columbus address on the profile. Marked Not a fit after Marcus opened the full profile: the firm is the local office of a national practice, and Marcus knows from a past bid that such offices do not choose their own IT provider.
One value offer. The AI researched the firm’s website and wrote three offers from the GTM Bud brief. Marcus chose one to test: “A two page review of your Microsoft 365 tenant: who still has a license after leaving, who has no second sign-in factor, and where the mail backup is.” The deliverable mode is Personalized, which means the firm makes the review for each lead after the lead replies. GTM Bud checked the offers and saved them.
One reply. Three weeks after launch, Renee wrote: “We have an IT company. They are slow but fine. What is this review exactly?” The playbook says: do not criticize the provider, answer the question, ask about the renewal, offer the call. The AI wrote:
“Renee, it is a two page list of what we see in your Microsoft 365 setup from the admin side: unused licenses, accounts without a second sign-in step, and the state of the mail backup. Your current provider can act on it. When does your IT agreement come up for renewal?”
Marcus cut “Your current provider can act on it”, because he did not want to do free work for a competitor in writing, and approved the rest. The AI sent the approved text.
Three objections MSP owners raise
“My buyers do not answer strangers. They answer the accountant.” Many do not, and this page does not promise a reply rate. What outreach changes is the dependency: the accountant sends a lead when she remembers, and a campaign sends on a schedule. If your referral partners are strong, keep them and treat this as the second source.
“A message about IT to a CFO reads like every other MSP.” It does if the offer is “a free network assessment”. The offer step exists for this reason. Your AI writes from your website and from the brief, and you choose which offers to test, up to three in one campaign. If none of them is something a controller would forward to a partner, do not launch.
“I cannot spare a technician to make a review for every reply.” Then choose the One suits all mode in place of Personalized: one finished resource for all leads. It costs less time and it is less specific. That trade-off is yours, and you make it before the offers are written.
What stays outside the chat
You connect the LinkedIn account, choose the sending account for the campaign and set the sending schedule on gtmbud.com. Launch needs an active plan or trial, and it happens only after you confirm a launch preview in the chat. GTM Bud sends no report on a schedule, so Friday at 4 is a question that you ask. The connector takes no list upload: the three firms your landlord mentioned are still a phone call.
Set it up
Add the connector to Claude with the steps on GTM Bud for Claude. The list of everything it can do is on the GTM Bud connector page. If you are the rainmaker of a service firm that is not an MSP, the closer page is AI LinkedIn outreach for B2B service firm CEOs.
Why outbound feels impossible for small teams
Two of your five largest clients were bought by bigger companies this year, and each buyer moved IT to its own team within one quarter
Every client you have came from a referral, most of them from the same accountant and the same commercial landlord
You have no salesperson, and the account manager you asked to prospect spent the month on a server migration instead
The people who sign your contracts are operations and finance leaders, and they do not read anything written for IT buyers
Your service area is one metro, so a lead list of the whole country is noise that you pay for
That's exactly why we built GTM Bud.
How GTM Bud helps
An audience that stops at your service area
You give the roles, the headcount range, the industries and the metro in one sentence. Your AI writes the criteria, GTM Bud checks each one and saves the draft, and the search runs by role, industry, company headcount and location.
Real local people before a message exists
A prospect preview returns real people that match. You mark each one Good fit or Not a fit, and you see fast if the audience pulls in the firms you would drive to.
An offer made from work your technicians already do
GTM Bud gives your AI its brief for value offers. Your AI reads your website and your LinkedIn profile, writes the offers, and GTM Bud checks and saves them.
Two hours that have a fixed shape
A launched campaign finds leads and sends on the schedule you set on gtmbud.com. Your hours go to results, reply review and one change to the audience.

Frequently asked questions
It can, because the search runs by location, and one metro is a location. The audience is smaller than a national one, so the fit of each person matters more. Check the prospect preview with care and mark the people who are outside your drive time or your industries before you launch.
No. GTM Bud reads LinkedIn profiles, company pages and public web content. The current IT provider of a company, its contract end date and its ticket history are private data. You target by role, company size, industry and location, and you learn about the incumbent from the replies.
At firms with 20 to 200 employees there is often no IT manager, and the contract is signed by an operations or finance leader. This page is about those roles. If your best clients do have an internal IT person who brought you in, write a second campaign for that role and keep the two apart.
About half in a normal week, by our estimate. Your AI reads each reply and writes an answer from your playbook, and you read, edit and approve it. The rest is the results question and one targeting change. The first build of a campaign is separate and takes a few sessions.
The review happens in the AI session of the person signed in to the GTM Bud account. The connector acts as that one person and has no separate reviewer role. Keep the review with the owner at the start, because the owner knows which clients the firm declines.
GTM Bud focuses on Sales Navigator accounts, so plan for one on the LinkedIn account that sends. You connect that LinkedIn account on gtmbud.com and not in the chat. The 14-day free trial starts when you launch your first campaign.
